Muslim North Africa to provide solar energy for Europe

June 29, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Energy mega-corporations are making plans to have all of Europe fueled by solar panels in Muslim North Africa within a decade. Companies such as Siemans and Deutsche Bank say that this is a chance for them to help fight against climate change and to get a foothold in the new green technology industry.

The European Commission’s Institute for Energy has stated that if just less than 1% of the light falling on the Saharan and Middle Eastern deserts could be harnessed, it could provide all the energy needs of Europe.

It’s important to note also that investors have made one of the most important criteria for their investments the political stability of any potential country housing this project. Morocco, Libya, and Algeria, all Muslim-majority countries, have been named as potential sites, whose land is also very inexpensive.

The technology to be used is also quite interesting, as it involves using mirrors to focus the sun’s rays onto vast canisters of water, which is then vaporised into steam that drives turbines and generates “carbon-free electricity”.

It is also being stressed by certain groups that the people of North Africa should benefit in some way from these projects, and not ust their governments. For example, a share of the energy could be siphoned off for the people of North Africa for free.
